THE MANUFACTURER'S STATED MAXIMUM RANGE FOR THESE WALKIE TALKIES IS WITHIN 150 FEET OF EACH OTHER (50 meters). In our testing, the actual range under every day conditions was about 20 feet.
SIMPLE AND EASY TO USE AND LOADS OF FUN!
These are low tech simple, easy to use walkie talkies. They have a lot of background static (like most low tech walkie talkies). They also have a very easy to use on or off switch, so you can switch the walkie talkies off when you are not talking and want to use them as pens. They actually make much better pens than walkie talkies. The range on these walkie talkies is extremely low. Under our testing you could only hear the other person from about 20 feet away.
These walkie talkie pens are obviously a kids toy and not a very good walkie talkie. I would recommend them for ages 3 to 6. Any kid older than 6 will be extremely disappointed in their very limited range. If two kids have rooms next to each other, they should be fine, otherwise they will be out of range.
The walkie talkies are very simple with only an on/off switch and a push to talk button. That is it. It makes them easy to use for kids. They don't even have a volume control (although they have a fake volume control knob on top of the walkie talkie).
If you want to buy a good walkie talkie for your kid then I would suggest the Jeff Gordon Walkie talkies in our store. They are of a much better quality, have at least a half mile range under everyday conditions, and they cost about the same price as these walkie talkie pens. The Jeff Gordon Walkie Talkies do NOT require a license and they run on 4 regular AAA batteries.
